Tulip Sylvestris or woodland tulip is recognisable by its pointed yellow petals and its wonderful fragrance. Dainty in appearance this tulip is a real treat for the garden!
This tulip was introduced in 1597 by accident into monastic vineyards - it was attached to the tangled roots of the vines that monks imported to the monasteries! The bulb soon naturalised in the UK and is often seen growing on the riverbanks.
